Quotes can empower us and validate us. They have the power to carry us through dark times and motivate us. They are a series of words that carry meaning, no matter how many perceptions or interpretations they face. Quotes are everywhere and they have a huge impact on everyones lives. For us spoonies quotes help us express, unite and survive. They help us share and embrace our experiences, good or bad. So this week we thought we'd share with you our favourite quotes and our perceptions of their meanings..
I used that quote with some of my doctors and that has sometimes given me access to more understanding from their part. I would also recommend the book or any book from Murakami for those who like it deep and strange and yet real
"Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional."- Haruki Murakami, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running
This quote reminds me that although I will always grieve some of the things I've lost due to chronic illness, such as my past self, I have also gained so much. Living with M.E is a life-long battle but it has given me a new gratitude for the little things, a community and a purpose. the quote reads "The winds that sometimes take something we love are the same that bring us something we learn to love" - Bob Marley
The way I see it if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain"- Dolly Parton
This quote serves as a reminder that many of the best things in life can only be achieved through dealing with adversity. How life is a journey and although so much of it is so hard and challenging - especially as a spoonie- if you push through the hard times when it's raining there will always be always a rainbow to hold on for. Sometimes that rainbow can be as simple as a low pain day. Other times the rainbow is something we looked forward to and worked so hard for. The rainbow will come no matter what it is so keep going, things will get better.
Nothing in nature blooms all year. Be patient with yourself. Deep in their roots, all flowers store the light.” -Unknown
This is one of my favourite quotes as it reminds us of two very important things:
1. It’s okay and natural not to be okay.
2. No matter how hopeless things may seem, in most cases, the darkness is eventually followed by brighter days.
